something ive noticed i guess about rook is what sets them apart from the other dragon age protagonists and that is that they aren't changed by the plot. they can go home when it's done.

the warden -- well, they become a grey warden and join this order of warriors. they have 30 years left to live and obligations. they cannot go back to how they were living before the game started.

hawke starts the game with their home in lothering being destroyed and ends the game with their home in kirkwall being destroyed. they can't go back to either.

the inquisitor is thrust into this title, thrust into leading this organization, and there's this narrative undercurrent of no matter who they were or what they believe, it's forfeit -- they're the inquisitor and they'll never be allowed to truly put that name down.

but rook -- like, they set out to do a thing and they do the thing and barring the worst ending where they're the one in the fade with solas, like. they can go home. they can go back to taking contracts for the crows or move back into the necropolis to continue doing Corpse Stuff. I'm not really making a critique here, just observing.
